Mrs. Heilmann: Current Events
Afghanistan

Be sure you remember how to have two applications open at one time.  For this activity, you will need to open a word processing document in Word,  and you will also need to open the Internet.  You will copy pictures and information from Internet to your word processing document.  Be sure to save your word processing document frequently.

The Middle East and Afghanistan - Look at the map and the country information on this page.  Copy the map and the country information to your word processing document.  Do the map first and then go back and copy the text.

Afghanistan - Look at the map of Afghanistan.  Copy the map to your word processing document.  Under the map, copy and paste the text that is called Background.

Islam - Read the article.  Then copy and paste the paragraph that begins, "The word Islam means submission and commitment to God." Include the five pillars of the Islam faith in the section you copy and paste.  Copy and paste the graph to your word processing document.

Afghan Food - This site is from a restaurant that serves Afghan food.  The restaurant is in Maine.  Look at the Lunch and Dinner menu.  Do you see anything that sounds good?  Go back to the main page and copy and paste the last paragraph about food in Afghanistan to your word processing document.

Who is Osama bin Ladin? - Go to this site and read the information on Osama bin Ladin.  Copy the picture of Osama bin Ladin and then paste it on your word processing document.  Also copy and paste the second paragraph on this site to your word processing document.

Surviving in the Mountains - Watch this slide show about how hard life is in the mountains of Afghanistan.  After watching the show, go back to your word processing document, and type a short response to what you have seen.  What do you remember?  How did the people look?  How did the countryside look?  How were the people and countryside different from us?  Would you like to live there?  Why or why not?
